Dean Supports Call for Investigation of EPA Response to September 11 Attacks

September 4, 2003

ALBUQUERQUE—

I am deeply disturbed by the Inspector General's finding that the EPA misled the people of New York City after the attacks of September 11. I fully support calls for a Department of Justice investigation into this matter, and specifically into the Inspector General's claim that the White House pushed the EPA to conceal potential air quality hazards. The EPA is tasked with protecting the air that we breathe, and any evidence that it downplayed air quality dangers around Ground Zero should be fully investigated.

As a doctor, I know that facts matter more than political considerations when it comes to public health. This administration has a long history of championing ideology over science and sweeping health concerns under the carpet in a quest for political gain.
