The Grassroots are Alive and WellVermont, April 7, 2004I can’t tell you how pleased I am to be a guest blogger. For years I have held on-line chats with school children all over Vermont. I imagine more than a few of them are among the thousands of Deaniacs who frequent this site. First, I want you to know how much I appreciate Howard’s support and endorsement. I have been so proud of Howard, not just for his presidential campaign, but for the work he has done over two decades to improve access to quality health care, to protect our environment and to consistently place principles above politics. Let me congratulate you on the extraordinary ways you are changing our country. You have changed the way politics are done and have shown the power individuals have in the political process. When the book is written on the 2004 presidential campaign, you will indeed be recognized as the greatest grassroots campaign that electrified the Democratic Party and ultimately elected a democratic president. I have seen for myself the power you possess. I was stunned and humbled by your response to Governor Dean’s request to support my re-election effort. Over 2000 supporters of Democracy for America have contributed nearly $100,000 to my campaign. The grassroots are alive and well, ensuring Democracy for America will be a force in national politics. As Governor Dean told you, I am up for re-election. Like others who have stood up to this administration I have found myself on the receiving end of their wrath. But like Howard I have faith in the people. Your support only strengthens my resolve. I am pleased to have your support and look forward to working with you to elect Democrats in November.
